Verdict Video: Won’t You Be My Neighbor

Fred and Koko

Brief Synopsis: This is a documentary about the life and work of Fred Rogers who is probably best known for his long-running PBS TV show, “Mr. Rogers neighborhood.” In the documentary, we get to finally get a complete sense of who Mr. Rogers was as a person, what drove him, as well as what appealed to audiences of all ages, particularly for those of us who were children while the show aired. We also get to learn about an attempt to make a similar show that was more geared toward an older, adult audience. We also learned why that would’ve failed. But most importantly, the documentary does a wonderful job of driving Fred’s undying message home: “love thy neighbor as thyself.” He is truly one of the best examples of how that should be done.

Ah, the neighborhood…

Verdict: see it. If you are someone who grew up with Mr. Rogers while the show was airing in its prime, or while it was in syndication, we would both definitely recommend that you see this movie. For more detailed the thoughts on the documentary when it first came out, check out the video below:
